Facing a once-in-a-century global pandemic, unprecedented challenges unfolded in
2020 for the nation and the health care industry, including ACOs. As ACOs and front-
line health care workers responded to the COVID-19 crisis and cared for patients,
NAACOS worked to ensure protections and favorable policies for ACOs in response
to the pandemic, as well as advance other key policies to strengthen the ACO model
             and shift to value-based payment.

             Key 2020 NAACOS advocacy wins:

             • Protected ACOs from COVID-19 financial losses while preserving shared-saving

             • Built a stakeholder coalition and delivered detailed feedback to CMS about an
overhaul of ACO quality measures, resulting in key final policy changes

             • Worked with Congressional champions to introduce legislation, The Value in
Health Care Act (H.R. 7791), to improve the Medicare Shared Savings Program
                 and shift to value-based payment

             • Secured an extension of the successful Next Generation ACO Model through
2021 and worked with CMS to refine and improved the new Direct Contracting

             • Expanded telehealth use through new regulatory flexibilities

             • Enacted changes to provide meaningful and timely data to ACOs through poli-
cies that will provide ADT information to ACOs and new information on patients
                 with substance use disorders
